The path starts along a track with easy walking along the ridge of the hill. Look and listen out here for Buzzards, a common sight around these hills. The trail then leads you round the boundary of a private house and down some steps into the thick of the wood.
These woods really are enchanting as the narrow path twists and turns round ancient gnarled trees. Creeping plants entangle the trees, climbing up the trunks. Holly and Yew create dark patches in the woods. Lighter corners reveal woodland flowers such as Bluebells, Violets and Lesser Celandine. Nuthatches, Long Tailed Tits and Warblers all build their nests here. Many would tell you that deep in the woods fairies have also lived for many centuries.
Climbing back up the hill the path joins a private drive briefly before plunging back into the woods. Here you can see the remains of quarrying on the site. Colourful Beech trees and bright green moss clinging to the trunks and rocks give the woods here a cheerful glow whatever time of year. The path continues to wiggle up the hill, before emerging back on the track that leads to the car park.
