"A joint library would be a national first and would extend opportunities for all members of the community." George Lord, Leader of Worcestershire County Council. |
Worcester has the opportunity to develop a wonderful shared facility. By bringing together the public and university libraries together with heritage services and a customer service centre the new building will provide a rich resource for the whole community
The idea is that everyone from toddlers, young people, researchers, those in need of information, senior citizens, community groups, and undergraduates will find what they want under one roof, in a way which makes it enjoyable to use.
We would like the building to be everyday and familiar, but also exciting and with the potential for new experiences.
Different areas will be created to ‘zone’ the activities which will be going on, but they will be visible and easy to find, so that nothing appears closed off, or only designed for ‘someone else’.
There will be social spaces with lots of activity, and quiet, reflective areas for those who wish to study, or read.

All these services will be in one building, working together in innovative ways to ensure that existing, high quality, services are maintained while taking advantage of the exciting opportunities for new developments.
