Over the last 50 years, there have been dramatic changes in production and supply chains in the UK. Globalisation of the food industry, for example, means more food is now sourced from further away, leading to a large increase in 'food miles' (the distance food travels from farm to consumer). This increase in the transportation of goods has contributed to increased CO2 emissions.
