Green energy comes from inexhaustible, renewable sources such as the sun, wind, water or plant material. Using these sources instead of fossil fuels helps reduce emissions of climate change gases. Organisations can use green energy in 2 main ways: procurement and generation.
Green Energy Procurement
If you buy from a green energy tariff, the electricity you receive will arrive through the same cables and wires, but for every unit of electricity you use your supplier will plough an equal amount of green energy into the National Grid.
Contact your supplier to find out about their green tariff option or compare different tariffs at a website such as www.uswitch.co.uk
To find out about the possibility of joining Worcestershire County Council's green energy contract, contact Energy Manager Simon Hartley 01905 766869 shartley@worcestershire.gov.uk
Renewable Energy Generation

Information on a the wide range of renewable energy technologies available (e.g. solar water heating, photovoltaics, biomass heating, wind turbines, ground source heat pumps) are available on the DTI and Energy Saving Trust websites.
Various grants are available to help with the costs of installing renewable energy technologies. Search for details in the Energy Saving Trust's Funding Database . Grants are also available through the Low Carbon Guilding Programme.
For information about bioenergy (biomass, biogas, biofuels) in the region, including local case studies, news, events and useful contacts, see the BioenergyWM website.
Marches Energy Agency (MEA) are a local charity promoting renewables and energy efficiency in Worcestershire. For advice & information about renewable energy technologies, contact them on 01743 246007, email info@mea.org.uk or visit the MEA website
Below are examples of renewable energy installations at organisations in Worcestershire and details of contacts to find out more.
