If you would like to apply for help the first point of call should be to contact the Access Centre or local Hub and ask for an assessment of need
Assessments of need are designed to help identify individual needs. Once the needs have been identified, then a discussion on the different ways in which needs may be met and what will best suit you and your situation may lead to you having Telecare.
Services cannot be provided to everyone so eligibility criteria alongside the assessment helps to decide if an individual is eligible for services.
Once eligible for services the council will draw up a care plan which will detail what services can be received.

Full details of assessments of needs can be found in the eligibility criteria and care plans in our Guide to Assessments and Eligibility for Services'
If the assessment shows eligibility for help we will then discuss the different ways in which individual needs can be met. The different services that will be discussed may include Telecare.
When discussing Telecare, it is important to consider the risks in the home and how Telecare sensors can help manage the risks.
Once a decision has been made to use Telecare, the Telecare provider will visit the service users home to install the Telecare unit and sensors
If individuals have an existing community alarm, the Telecare unit may either replace the existing alarm or be fitted in addition to it. This will depend on how the existing alarm has been installed. Telecare equipment is installed within 7 working days and in many cases, much sooner than this.
