Introduction from the Director of Financial Services

The County Council has substantial financial responsibilities. It’s annual revenue budget amounts to £255 million and it receives specific grants of approximately £369 million (including £259 million Dedicated Schools Grant). Capital Investment planned for the next few years is almost £400 million. The Council maintains a staff pension fund worth £1246 million.

The Finance Directorate’s philosophy concentrates on serving customers, promoting excellent stewardship of public money and supporting the Council’s objectives.

Our desire is to provide our customers with services which are high quality, relevant and at a price that is affordable.

We aim to protect the Council’s financial interests and statutory duties. We must provide safe secure and efficient financial systems. We apply a regulatory framework to achieve the highest standards of integrity and personal conduct in the management of the Council’s financial affairs. We promote a thrifty style to deliver best value for money to the taxpayer.

We support the achievement of the Council’s objectives by sound and farsighted financial planning. We seek to increase the capacity of the Council to improve the quality of services to its citizens and businesses by raising finance in partnership with Government and its agencies and private sector partners.
