THE ARCHAEOLOGY OF AGGREGATE SITES IN WORCESTERSHIRE
Location: Home » Learning » Unlocking the Past

Unlocking the past is an initiative made possible by a grant from English Heritage through the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund. It celebrates, and gives account of, the many important archaeological discoveries that have been made within quarries by quarry workers and archaeologists, from the early 19th century onwards.

The grant has given Worcestershire's Historic Environment and Archaeology Service the opportunity to build this internet resource, so that the wider community has access to the story that these discoveries tell of human occupation in the region from prehistoric times to the present day.

The website also provides many links to other heritage organisations, to research and conservation groups, to schools and universities, to museum and archive collections, and to local community groups who are not traditionally connected to the world of archaeology
