Voting by Proxy

Proxy Votes

A proxy vote is when you appoint someone else to vote on your behalf. Anyone can ask for a postal vote but if you want to appoint a proxy you must give a reason why you cannot reasonably be expected to vote in person (eg if you will be on holiday)

Appointing a Proxy

If you wish to appoint a proxy download and print an application form This is a link to a PDF file. (200.61 KB) here. A separate application form is required for each person. Because the application is a legal document it must be signed by the person concerned and then sent back to the Council at the address stated below. Applications cannot be submitted by e-mail.

If you are unable to download or print the form please contact Customer Services and we will send a form to you in the post. Please don't forget to give your full name and address and state how many forms you require.

If you wish to apply for a permanent proxy vote you must fall into one of the following categories:

  • if you suffer from a physical incapacity
  • if you live in a residential care home
  • if you are a registered blind person
  • if you receive the higher rate of motability component of the disability allowance, because of physical incapacity
  • if your employment or education or attendance on a course prevents you from going to the polling station
  • if you are self-employed and cannot go to the polling station
  • if going to the polling station would involve a journey by sea or air

There are different forms depending upon the type of application you wish to make.
