The Malvern Hills Transport Partnership evolved in 2006 from the Rural Transport Partnership which was established in 2000 when a Project Officer was appointed to research and develop projects on its behalf. The Steering Group originally had representatives from Community First, WCC, MHDC, First Group, the PCT, Older Peoples’ Forum, the Youth Service, Community Action, Job Centre Plus, the Learning and Skills Council as well as independent members and it helped identify areas of need and the priorities of the Partnership. It also fostered good communications between transport users and providers and encouraged new and innovative developments.
The RTP came to an end in April 2006 and the District Council was very keen to see the good works and relationships developed and continued. The Steering Group had attained a wealth of knowledge and understanding of transport planning, provision and development and had been pro-active in seeking sustainable transport solutions that met the needs of the community.
The new Partnership has the following Aim:
| To represent partner organizations in developing travel choice by enhancing transport services and improving access for rural employment, services and social activity in the Malvern Hills district |
It has as its Objective:
| To identify and develop initiatives that fulfil the requirements of the Partnership’s Aim whilst meeting the priorities of the Local Strategic Partnership (Vision 21), the District and County Council. |
As well as the members mentioned above, bus/rail/taxi operators, Festival Housing, Extended Schools Officers, Young Farmers, CALC, town and parish councils, some businesses in the District and a person representing those with disabilities are invited as appropriate.
Representatives from other organisations may apply to join the Partnership and these will be considered by it.
The Partnership is currently involved in the following areas of work:
Meetings take place at least quarterly and the Partnership is a key consultation body on Transport Matters including the Local Transport Plan and the Integrated Passenger Transport Strategy.
