Club Involvement

Which sports clubs does Malvern Hills District Council have involvement with?

Sport and Recreation Services at Malvern Hills District Council have established close working relationships with a number of local sports clubs and organisations within the community.

Did you know there was a tennis club around the corner or an archery club down the road? Take a look at our Sports Directory This is a link to a PDF file. (712.87 KB) to see where you can try your favourite sport today, tomorrow and for many years to come.

A selection of the clubs we have involvement with are:

Malvern Rugby Club
Malvern Rugby Club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of seven and eighteen to enjoy playing rugby in a safe friendly and equitable local community club. Youngsters are guided through a 36 week structured season by a dedicated team of qualified coaches who are trained by the Rugby Football Union and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people by the UK Government's Criminal Records Bureau.

The coaching policy of Malvern Rugby Club requires the youth rugby coaches to work very closely to the RFU coaching guidelines. This not only helps all the young people to develop all of the core skills that they will need to become accomplished players, but it also helps them to become more self-confident and to develop a sense of fair play, good sportsmanship and friendship at all levels of attainment.

Malvern Rugby Club is a very successful and ambitious local sports club, but it is a sports club that is very aware of the true value sport has within our local community, especially for young local people. This is why during the course of the season, Malvern Rugby Club continues to work within the local community and local schools, to help even more young people to discover sport, competition and new friendships that they will grow to enjoy and value in later life.

The Malvern Rugby Club have achieved the Rugby Football Unions Seal of Approval and the Sport England Club Mark status, for further information about Club Mark or the Seal of Approval please use the links below:

The Malvern Magic Basketball Club
The Malvern Magic Basketball club was formed in 1998 and became the first junior basketball club in the District.

Catering for both boys and girls aged 12-18, young people have the opportunity to train with fully qualified coaches every week and play competitive matches in a newly formed Worcestershire junior basketball league. MHDC work closely with the Malvern Magic to deliver coaching programs within the local schools and surrounding areas that provide opportunities to for youngsters to participate right on their doorsteps.

The Malvern Magic are working towards their Club Mark and will hopefully achieve the status by the end of 2005.

The Malvern Hockey Club
The hockey club was also formed in 1998 and have since increased their junior membership to around the 100 mark.

Utilising some of the Malvern Hills District Councils community time on the Chase ATP, the hockey club train every Sunday from 9-1. With such comprehensive training program and fully qualified coaches they can cater for all children of all ability levels.

Every child will also have the opportunity to play competitive matches within local leagues or friendly matches. Like with all well managed clubs they are also working towards their Club Mark, which in turn will confirm them as one of the counties better junior clubs.

Barnards Green Cricket Club
Barnards Green is the most advanced clubs within the Malvern Hills and caters for the whole community within their junior, men's and woman's sections.

From their large pool of qualified and dedicated coaches and volunteers, they provide a wide range of activities both within their club and through their strong club links within the local schools.

At every age group individuals will be able to build on what they have learnt and put their skills in to practice within the local leagues and cup competitions.

Barnards Green will be completing their Club Mark in early 2005 and become the Districts first cricket club to complete this feat.

The Malvern Hills District Council work closely with many more clubs within the community, who all play a role in keeping our District fit and healthy.

With the introduction of MHDC's new website in early 2005, we will be including over views of all the clubs we have a close working relationship with and updating you on all the important information surrounding sport and our local clubs, such as:

  • A new Sports Club Directory - who and where is your closest club
  • Local facility provision - local sporting activities within your club and local facilities
  • How to get involved in sports coaching and your local club.
  • Information on the Club Mark accreditation.
