Unoccupied Property Rating

In general, there will be no Business Rates to pay for the first three months that a property is empty or in the case of Industrial Properties for the first six months that a property is empty. After that, an empty property rate of 100% will be payable.

Listed buildings and small properties with rateable values of less that £2,200, pay no empty property rates even after the first three or six months have expired. For further details contact the Council (details below).

Partly Occupied Property

If you are only using part of a premises it may be possible to reduce your business rates bill.

We will need to inspect your premises so please contact the council to claim this relief.

This relief is only available for a short period and will stop if:

• the unoccupied part of the property becomes occupied,
• the whole property becomes unoccupied, or
• there are other changes to the property.
