The Tenbury Flood Task Force
Consisting of key partners from across the
county, including the county council, Hereford Fire & Rescue,
Environment Agency and the town and district council, the Task
Force, a sub group of the Malvern Hills Partnership, was set up to
discuss possible solutions to flooding in Tenbury.
Over the past twelve months the Task Force has:
- Carried out 228 individual property flood assessments to
understand how flood waters enter and leave a property. The
assessments, conducted by Hydro-Logic Ltd, provided home owners
with a detailed report that not only highlighted flood issues to
address, but recommended flood products that would reduce the risk
of future flooding
- Successfully applied for over £300, 000 in funding from the
Department for Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Midlands
Flood Defence Committee. The funding will be used to provide grants
to affected home owners so they can purchase and install the
recommended flood defence measures
- Hosted two flood fair forums to raise awareness of the wide
range of flood defence products on offer and what to do in case of
a flood
- Recruited local volunteers to the Tenbury Emergency Support
Team who have been trained to support the community and take the
lead during future cases of flooding.
Over the next few months the
Task Force will distribute grants to all property owners wishing to
be a part of the scheme.
