The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire (SPHW)  

Who are they?

The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire are a County Sports Partnership or a "CSP". SPHW is one of the 49 CSP's that currently exists in England. They are defined by Sport England to be "a partnership of agencies committed to providing a high quality, single system for people to benefit from sport."

The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire is an alliance of the eight Local Authorities, two Primary Care Trusts (PCT's) of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, University of Worcester, Sport England and National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB’s).

What do they do?

The Sports Partnership has been established to be the strategic lead for Sport and Active Recreation across the two counties and their primary focus is around increasing participation. They are funded by contributions from key partners and act on behalf of the partnership to maximise investment from other sources into the area.

SPHW's Vision

They believe that everybody benefits from being active and has the right to take part in a wide range of sports and physical activities. They also hope that you will feel better, have fun and meet people too.

Nationally, Sport England has set them a target of a 1% increase in participation in Sport and Active recreation year on year.

Their commitments are as follows:

  1. Raise the awareness of and opportunities for, sport and active recreation
  2. Build a strong network of safe, effective and friendly clubs
  3. Strengthen Partnerships to ensure the effective & efficient delivery of organised sport and active recreation
  4. Develop an appropriately skilled workforce to support the delivery system
  5. Promote the Sports Partnership, its’ partners and their roles
  6. Demonstrate the achievements of the Partnership through evidence based performance management
